Are you a DREAMer? Information about Deferred Action
What is Deferred Action?
On June 15, 2012, President Obama announced that youth brought to the United States as children can apply for special immigration relief called “deferred action.” Deferred action means that you will have protection from being deported. This protection lasts for two years at a time and can be renewed. Young people granted deferred action can also get a work permit.
To qualify for this program you must meet certain conditions, including having no felony or major misdemeanor charges. Below are links to fact sheets, information about the requirements and other helpful resources.

Connecticut Legal Services Inc. has started a new project to help young people who are eligible for deferred action under immigration’s new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Anyone who calls CLS’ new toll free DACA number (800-798-0671) will be screened for financial eligibility for free legal services from CLS and interviewed to determine their potential eligibility for DACA. Eligible people will be given an appointment with an attorney who will help them through the process. People who are over CLS’ income limits will be referred to other resources, including clinics, immigrant service agencies and private attorneys. Click here to view a flyer.
